The channel is set preparing to shoot the second season of its show "Fix My Frankenhouse," which will air next year.
So, what is a "frankenhouse?" Mike Butler, a general contractor who hosts the show with his wife interior decorator wife, Denese, explained in an HGTV blog post.
They're hodgepodge houses that don't flow. A Frankenhouse could have ... ten different types of flooring on one level or bad sightlines, e.g., you open the front door to a view of a toilet down the hall. The layout and features just don't make sense or lend themselves to modern-day living.
Most of these homes are the product of multiple additions and poorly thought-out redesigns.
If your home fits this definition, and you have plans to remodel and repair it, then you could be on sophomore season. Though, you'll have to meet specific criteria that HGTV has set. Those include:
- Homes must be within 45 minutes of Stoughton.
- The renovation must be funded by the homeowner, with a budget of $150,000 - $250,000
- Homeowners must vacate their homes during the renovation.
